Characters and voice cast
- Ranma Saotome (早乙女乱馬) - main character, voiced by Kappei Yamaguchi (山口勝平); English dub: Suzie Yeung. Training with Genma at Jusenkyou in China, Ranma was thrown into a spring called Nyanniichuan. He emerged as a young girl, according with the spring's curse. When splashed with hot water, he changes back to a boy, but when splashed with cold to room temperature water, he turns into a girl again.
- Akane Tendou (天道あかね) - main character, voiced by Noriko Hidaka (日高のり子); English dub: Valeria Rodriguez. Occupation: Material arts student, sports Weapon: Large, wooden mallet. Akane Tendo is the youngest of Soun Tendo's three daughters and one of the heirs to the Anything Goes School of Martial Arts.
- Ryouga Hibiki (響良牙) - supporting character, voiced by Kouichi Yamadera (山寺宏一); English dub: Rachel Slotky. Ryouga is Ranma Saotome's eternal rival and a friend to him, the only one he has outright stated to truly consider as such, arguably the tritagonist, and one of the most powerful fighters in the series.
- Ukyo Kuonji (久遠寺右京) - supporting character, voiced by Kaori Nazuka (名塚佳織); English dub: Erica Mendez. Ten years ago, on a training trip in the country, Genma stole Ukyo's father's okonomiyaki yatai (food cart), leaving her behind and breaking the arrangement he and her father made. However, before this Ranma and Ukyo were friends, though Ranma never knew she was a girl.
- Shampoo (シャンプー) - supporting character, voiced by Rei Sakuma (佐久間レイ ); English dub: Grace Lu. Shampoo is a Chinese Amazon from Joketsuzoku. She is one of the main three fiancées of Ranma Saotome. She is manipulative. She has repeatedly shown as devious and strategic as well as not being above scheming, play-acting, or completely ruthless behavior to advance her position towards the object of her attention.
- Nabiki Tendou (天道なびき) - supporting character, voiced by Minami Takayama (高山みなみ); English dub: Stephanie Sheh. The second daughter of Soun Tendou. The most important thing to her is money and she'd do anything to achieve it, including blackmailing her own family members. In some stories, she plays an important role in trying to extort money or placing bets just for her own amusement.
- Kasumi Tendou (天道かすみ) - supporting character, voiced by Kikuko Inoue (井上喜久子); English dub: Laura Post. Eldest of the Tendo girls and is the most gentle of the lot. She has graduated high school and spends most of her day looking after the Tendo household, acting as the family's substitute "matriarch" ever since her mother's untimely death; by cooking, cleaning and helping her family.
- Mousse (沐絲) - supporting character, voiced by Toshihiko Seki (関俊彦); English dub: Seong-Won Cho. Mousse is a long-time friend of Shampoo, though she might not view it that way. He has been in love with her for most of his life, but she finds him annoying at best. He can't see very well without his glasses, often mistaking someone for something else.
- Tatewaki Kunou (九能帯刀) - supporting character, voiced by Tomokazu Sugita (杉田智和); English dub: Jonah Scott. Tatewaki Kuno is an upperclassman at Furinkan High and was the big man on campus – at least until Ranma came along. Hailing from a very wealthy family, he is also captain of the kendo club and wields both his fortune and sword with equal ease.
- Soun Tendou (天道早雲) - supporting character, voiced by Akio Ootsuka (大塚明夫); English dub: Jude Prest. Soun is the head of the Tendo household and one of the two families to practice Anything Goes Martial Arts. He's a widower, left to single-handedly take care of his three daughters. He has a large house that is occasionally in need of repairs due to the fights that take place there.
- Azusa Shiratori (白鳥あずさ) - supporting character, voiced by Aoi Yuuki (悠木碧). Azusa Shiratori is the female half of "The Golden Pair of Kolhotz High School". She is well known for her obsession for collecting things that she regards as being cute and then giving them names, usually with a French origin. "Azusa" means "catalpa tree" while "Shiratori" means "white bird".
- Genma Saotome (早乙女玄馬) - supporting character, voiced by Choo (チョー ); English dub: Fred Tatasciore. Genma Saotome is very much like his son, Ranma. He is somewhat arrogant when it comes to his martial arts abilities, which he rarely showcases due to cowardice or laziness. It was Genma that took Ranma to Jusenkyo.
- Kodachi Kunou (九能小太刀) - supporting character, voiced by Ayane Sakura (佐倉綾音). The captain of the gymnastics team of the St. Bacchus' School for Girls, who is referred to as "The Black Rose," likely due to her signature theatrical style of exiting a scene by leaving behind a swirling trail of black roses accompanied by high-octave laughter.
- Hikaru Gosunkugi (五寸釘光) - supporting character, voiced by Akira Ishida (石田彰); English dub: Stephen Fu. Gosunkugi is a classmate of Ranma and Akane. Like many of the other male characters in the series, Gosunkugi is in love with Akane even though he is too shy to tell her. He also realizes that he would never stand a chance against her other suitors like Ryoga and Kuno.
- Happousai (八宝斎) - supporting character, voiced by Kazuhiko Inoue (井上和彦). Soun and Genma trained during their youths with the evil and perverted Happosai. The little man is THE master of Anything Goes Martial arts (Musabetsu Kakutō Ryū). He is also a panty thief and lecher beyond belief.
- Toufuu Ono (小乃東風) - supporting character, voiced by Toshiyuki Morikawa (森川智之); English dub: Josh Keaton. Dr. Tofu Ono is the local chiropractor and often helps Akane and Ranma when they have bumps, bruises or dislocated joints from their many fights. He is very knowledgeable about martial arts techniques although he is never seen practicing. Dr. Tofu is also deeply in love with Kasumi Tendou.
- Cologne (可崘) - supporting character, voiced by Ako Mayama (真山亜子); English dub: Barbara Goodson. Cologne is the great-grandmother of Shampoo. She accompanies Shampoo on her return to Japan, and opens the Cat Café in Furinkan. She is a contemporary of Happosai, and well over one hundred years old.
- Mikado Sanzenin (三千院帝) - supporting character, voiced by Mamoru Miyano (宮野真守). Azusa's skating partner. He is quite a womanizer and has kissed over a thousand women, often breaking up other figure skating pairs. Mikado at times actually seems to dislike Azusa and understands peoples frustration with her. He often loses his temper with her childish behavior, but often suffers for it.
